A landmark on the Spaarne I’ve always loved how De Adriaan sits right on the edge of the water, looking like it’s been watching over Haarlem forever. I spent an afternoon by the riverbank painting this, trying to capture the way the light hits the white gallery and the big wooden sails.
There’s something so sturdy and peaceful about this windmill. To me, it’s the perfect symbol of Dutch history mixed with a quiet, breezy afternoon by the water. I wanted the painting to feel as calm as the river Spaarne on a still day. I hope this card brings a little bit of that Haarlem charm to your desk or whoever you send it to.
